What is ACRE?

The Atmospheric Circulation Reconstructions over the Earth (ACRE) initiative is an end-to-end project which facilitates both the historical global weather observational data needs of surface-observations-only climate quality reanalyses, & the seamless feeding of 3D weather products produced by these reanalyses into climate applications & impacts models. ACRE achieves this outcome by:
  • linking international meteorological organisations & data rescue infrastructure to facilitate the recovery, extension, quality control & consolidation of global historical terrestrial & marine instrumental surface data covering the last 250 years;
  • making these observations available to new pioneering surface-observations-only reanalyses;
  • ensuring that reanalysis products can be tailored/downscaled to seamlessly flow into various climate applications & production models.
