Antarctic region marine observations for 1895-1915
Southern Cross 1898-1900
Data from The Southern Cross Expedition of 1897-1900 were available as a hardcopy of the book "Southern Cross Antarctic Expedition, 1898-1900 - Magnetic and Meteorological Observations", in the Met Office Archives. The daily weather observations from this book (pp 100-107) have been digitised and converted into IMMA records.
- Data as digitised (Excel spreadsheet,Tab delimited text))
- Script to convert to IMMA format (uses this Perl module).
- IMMA records.
Problems and limitations
- The data available are daily mean, maximum and mimimum values for pressure, air and sea temperature, and daily ranges for wind speed and direction; these do not map easily into IMMA records, which are designed to store point values. The mean values have been included in the core IMMA records (which also have no hour specified) - the maxes, mins, and ranges are included in the suplementary data.
